FIFA’s official website confirmed that India, Pakistan and Bangladesh will be playing friendly football series in June first week. The venue is yet to be officially announced but it is likely to be held in England at a time when the ICC Cricket Champions Trophy would also be in progress there.

Celebrity Management Group (CMG) will be organiser of the footballing event. The friendly series will be a good practice for SAFF Championship 2013 to be held in Nepal. India is a defending champion while Bangladesh and Pakistan were knocked out by Nepal in group stage match. Nepal lost to Afghanistan in a very tight match in semifinal. Matches are scheduled to be held in Fulham ground.

Nepal international Sandip Rai is awarded ‘NCell Footballer Of The Year Award’ jointly organised by NCell and ANFA. He receives a brand new car. It was based on sms voting which counted 60% of the votes. Remaining 40% were decided by by sports journalists and match officials. Versatile player Rai who can play in defense or in midfield got the highest votes followed by country’s prolific strikers Bharat Khawas and Anil Gurung. Sandip plays professional football from Nepal league champions ‘Three Star Club’. Earlier Rai had short stint with Indian club in Kolkata.

Lalitpur based club Three Star wins ‘A’ division football league championship, country’s highest division tournament. The champions will get Rs 7.5 million cash prize and also will represent Nepal in AFC President cup. Three star clinched the title before 2 games in hand. One of the most successful clubs in country has huge fan following which stars many Nepalese international players.

National champion will meet league champions of Bangladesh, Taiwan and Mongolia in AFC President Cup Qualifiers to be held in Kathmandu in May this year. Best two teams of the group proceed to final rounds.

Nepalese football supporters who are one of the craziest and loudest in the region are very frustrated with Nepal’s performance in international football. Unlike in other South Asian countries football is quite popular in Nepal. Out of 23 national football players one will be selected as ‘NCell Player Of The Year’ through voting system and the winner will get four wheeler. 60% of the voting will be judged by SMS and remaining 20% will be by sports journalists where as other 20% will be decided by football coaches who hold AFC ‘A’ ‘B’ and ‘C’ licence. Host Nepal could not make it to AFC Challenge Cup 2014 after finishing third in group ‘D’. Nepal started campaign in a style defeating newcomer Northern Mariana Islands 6-0. But spirited host side went down to Bangladesh 0-2 after some harsh penalty decision from referee.
